Radically-Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Many of our clients with chronic major depression, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders are over-controlled and inhibited behaviorally and emotionally. Traditional Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) targets emotional and behavioral undercontrol which can serve to only increase the inhibition seen in our clients with already over-controlled temperaments. This presentation would focus on Radically Open-Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), an innovative, novel approach which targets the inhibited expression particularly associated with anorexia nervosa restricting type, anxiety disorders, chronic depression and obsessive compulsive personality disorder. In this introduction to RO-DBT, we would explore the biosocial theory of over-controlled disorders and discuss the main tenants of RO-DBT. We would further explore the importance of modeling radical openness as clinicians as we consult with colleagues and treat clients. Finally, specific applications of RO-DBT would be shared.
