Carter is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate in the state of Washington (#MC60572237). Carter received her Masters in Counseling Psychology from the Seattle School. Prior to this, she spent several years studying creative writing and fine arts intensively. She brought her unique creativity to Opal in 2015 as a milieu therapist and the Art Therapy lead. Carter co-created and leads Opal’s Shame+Play group. Carter’s background and experience in storytelling naturally led to her position as the best and creative director of The Appetite podcast.

Carter uses a relational and creative therapeutic approach with clients. As a writer, she sees the world through metaphor and often views food and eating disorders as a metaphorical map to interpersonal development. 
 
Outside of Opal Carter is a major foodie and loves to connect with others over a delicious meal. She also enjoys food writing, cooking, coffee table books, studying wine, and making art.
