Responsive to Research

We are committed to providing the most effective treatment possible for our clients. As a result, we lean towards research-based treatments, and stay connected with research regarding treatment for eating disorders.  When studies suggest that a particular approach is effective in the treatment of eating disorders, we will integrate it into our work with clients.  We are flexible and will not hold on too tightly to an approach when it is not showing strength in the research literature and/or does not appear to be effective for a particular client.  We also realize that, at times, research has not yet caught up to the front lines of eating disorder care.  Creative and pioneering methods will be used carefully and judiciously when clients’ symptoms are showing resultant improvement.  Opal is both innovative and on the cutting edge of eating disorder treatment.  For example, in October 2015 Opal was the first eating disorder treatment program in the United States to offer Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy in Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programming.
